A Fun February!

Hello!  It has been an exciting month for us! Matt's parents were here early in the month, and then this past weekend Coen finally got to meet his Uncle JR!  JR was in Lincoln for a week and was able to be here for the shower to celebrate Coen's arrival.  Coen seemed to love JR; we can definitely tell JR has been around babies since he moved to Phoenix.  He was a pro with Coen and was a big help with him.  I wish he lived closer so we could hire him:) 

Coen continues to grow and meet his milestones.  He has now started to grasp some toys, and he even tries to put a pacifier in his mouth once in awhile.  He wants to put everything in his mouth and he yells a lot on his playmat since the hanging toys aren't quite long enough for him to get in his mouth.  Last week he rolled over from his tummy to his back, and now he actually seems to enjoy being on his tummy.  He holds his head up so well, and loves looking in the little mirror that hangs on his mat. 

This week Coen will have his 4-month doctor visit.  Matt and I can't wait to find out how much he weighs as he is definitely packing on the pounds!  I only wish he liked to sleep as much as he enjoys to eat:) 

Matt and I have been blessed with some opportunities this past week and we are also incredibly thankful for the good news about my Dad's health.  The cancer is gone and he is doing so well!  We are thrilled that he will be here to enjoy being Poppy to Coen and we thank everyone for their many, many prayers.

February Update

Hello! Time continues to go by so quickly and we forget this blog doesn't update itself. Coen is finally asleep and it's not even 10 o'clock, so I finally have a few minutes for a quick update.

This past weekend was a fun one for Coen. On Friday night, Coen attended his first sporting event and he seemed to really enjoy it. Matt's co-host, Nick Bahe, was having his jersey retired at halftime during the Lincoln Southeast boys basketball game, so we decided to head to Lincoln for the big event. I was concerned the band or the crowd may be too loud, but Coen wasn't bothered a bit and he had a fun night! He even got to check-out mommy's pictures on the "Wall of Honor" at the school. Someday he'll be so proud:)

Saturday morning, Matt's parents arrived and Coen was able to spend the weekend with Nanny and Pops. We spent Saturday at home and then on Sunday went to breakfast and then did some shopping. Coen is always such a good boy when we're out and we're so thankful for that. It was a nice weekend and I know Coen enjoyed always having someone to play with him or hold him.

We are really enjoying each day with Coen and he is turning into a fun little guy. He smiles a lot and has recently started to laugh. The sound of his laugh is the best and we can't wait for him to start doing it more often. He likes being on his playmat and is now grabbing for the toys and trying to hang-on. I can't wait for the day when he can hold a toy all on his own (and especially a bottle)! He is quite the little drooler and we imagine we'll see some teeth within the next month or two. Yikes! I can't believe he could possibly be getting that big!

We are very excited for this weekend. My brother JR is finally going to be able to come home and meet Coen.  I know Coen is going to love hanging out with his uncle.

We hope everyone is surviving this very cold and snowy winter. We are so excited for the warmer weather ahead. It will be nice to finally be able to take Coen out and go to the park or the zoo. Mom and Dad wouldn't mind getting outside, either!

Coen and company are doing great.  We hope the Lord is blessing you, too.

Catching Up!

Happy New Year!!  We realized last week that we haven't posted anything since Christmas, so it's time to fill you in on what has been happening with the Schicks.



We had a wonderful Christmas in Lincoln with my family.  Coen attended church for the first time when we went to Christmas Eve service. He did fantastic!  He slept for most of the service and when he was awake he seemed more fasinated with the lights then anything else.  We had a great time celebrating with my mom and Scott and then awoke on Christmas morning and celebrated with my dad and Jodell.  Judging by the gifts Coen received, he must have been a good boy.



Shortly after Christmas we packed up and headed to Colorado to see Nanny and Pops and Coen's aunts and uncles.  Coen was such a good little traveler and slept most of the 8 hour trip.  We were so thankful!



We had a wonderful time in Colorado and Coen was so happy to spend time with his grandparents.  Matt and I even left him one afternoon and went to Ryan and Steph's for some great food and football.  It was nice to get some time away:)  And I know Nanny and Pops really enjoyed spending some alone time with their grandson.



Things have been pretty busy since we got back.  Last weekend, Matt was the emcee for the Rimington Trophy presentation in Lincoln.  Coen was in the hands of his Lincoln grandparents, splitting time with Baga and Grampo and Nana and Poppy while Matt and I were out for the night.  Matt did a fantastic job, Coen was a good little baby, and I worried about him most of the night! 



Coen continues to grow and surprise us with all of the new things he does.  He is very strong and loves to kick and splash in the tub and really loves to stand up on our laps.  That little guy wants to walk so badly!!  Coen recently had his two-month shots and he did great.  He cried for a few seconds but stopped as soon as Mom and Dad picked him up.  I was relieved he did so well as I was so worried about how he would react.  Shortly after we arrived home we received a call from the doctor's office.  Apparently, there was a mix-up when the nurses gave the shots and Coen was accidentally given two Polio vaccines.  Matt and I were concerned upon hearing the news, but the nurse assured us there would be no adverse reaction.  Matt joked that Coen would never get Polio, or he would immediately contract it.  Thankfully, Coen has been 100% healthy for his first three months in this world.



I have been so blessed to be able to stay home with Coen every day.  I haven't missed one of his life-giving smiles, and I've seen him grow up before my eyes.  Matt's job allows him to be home in the afternoon and evening, so Dad gets to share in everything.  Matt loves to play with his son, make funny faces and sing him songs.  Coen gets both Mom and Dad for every bath, which is something we all look forward to every night.  We make a great team, and I couldn't be more happy to have such an adorable son and a loving husband and father.



Coen will get plenty of company this month.  Nanny and Pops (Matt's Mom and Dad) visit us on Super Bowl weekend (2/5).  My brother JR visits the following weekend.  The weekend after that, my family and friends are giving Coen a shower.  It should be a fun and event-filled February.
