Getting Sleepy

Time for Matt/Dad to write a blog entry.

It's been an interesting few days in the Schick household.  I've been sick since Wednesday night, so Kelly has had a couple of babies to take care of.

Friday night was guys night, as Kelly did some volunteering at a silent auction for an adoption agency.  So for about four hours, it was just Coen and me.  I ruled with strict hand -- Coen was not allowed to invite any friends over, and he couldn't talk back, and he couldn't eat past 9 o'clock.  For the most part, he abided by my rules.  As you can see by the video below, he was jumping for joy at the chance to get some alone time with Dad:

Coen has started to make some new noises.  He has learned how to making spitting noises.  Here's another video:

We had been struggling a lot with getting Coen on a nap schedule.  He was pretty good at falling asleep at night, but never took to napping.  Mom did a lot of reading, and we learned that we just need to set the schedule and give him a chance to fall asleep.  Being the caring parents that we are, we never let him cry too much.  Now, after a few days of letting him cry/fuss himself to sleep for naps, we've gotten him into a sleeping groove.

This morning he woke up at 7:30.  After feeding him some rice cereal and formula, then playing with him for a little while, we put him down at 9:00.  Mom and Dad took the opportunity to put themselves down at 9:00, too.  He woke up at 10:30 (so did we).  He proceded to take naps at 12:30pm and 5:45pm, with a sleepy car ride to the store in-between.  His 5:45pm nap was supposed to last about an hour, but Coen slept until 8:00pm!  We fed him a bottle, gave him a bath, read him a book and put him down at 8:45pm.  He went right to sleep.  Ideally, he should be getting between 4-5 hours of sleep per day.  He got it today.  The boy who never knew how to nap is now making sleep his way of life (with a little help from his parents).  Ironically, Kelly and I are taking advantage of his sleepy times by... sleeping.

Coen is such a little sweetheart.  I could not have asked for a kinder, gentler boy.  Seeing him smile makes me forget about any stresses that life may bring.  Every day brings new blessings.

My Mom and Dad pay us a visit this weekend.  Coen is looking forward to seeing his Nanny and Pops.

God bless.
Matt
